Some say the world will end with fire.

Others say with ice.

From what I've tasted of desire

I hold with those that favor fire.

But if I had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate,

To say that for destruction ice,

Is also great and would suffice.

I think these three shots are awesome - tell me why the houses didn't burn -

Here are my guesses:
1. They stood outside their house with a hose? lol
2. The houses are cement?
3. The burning around them was a slow controlled burn to keep the big fire from doing what it wanted?

Wrong all three times - cement is the closest to correct because they have defensible space although not enough but they are made out of fire resistant materials which prevented the fire from becoming established on the roof or the sides of the buildings.

If you own a home find out what you need to do to have enough defensible space then make sure you do what you need to do to provide it.

Without it you have no chance to save your home - with it you have a chance - although a small chance.

Then after you do that figure out what you can do to cover the house and roof with fire retardant materials....this will cost you some money but may in fact save your home.

OK now I'm getting off the soap box.

they are incredible - especially the ones where you can see the whole mountain in flames
