This picture shows a whole backseat of a full sized truck filled with giant puff balls that were growing in the fire area when we went to check it a week ago. We have been eating mushroom steaks all week and only made it through almost two of these. The others went to folks that went out there with me.
I asked them if they had eaten any and they both told me they have eaten a bunch, sauteed a bunch and dried a bunch. They both took home over 30 pounds each. It was kinda fun to find that many edible mushrooms in such a small area.
I rode home in the backseat and I assure you the smell of all those mushrooms was awful.

I would only try eating them if you showed me the edible ones. I wouldn't dare otherwise. :)
This is the only type that we eat, but they are very, very good. I froze part of ours after I cooked them in butter.
I've never seen mushrooms that big!
Nene, I had never seen them that big either, nor that many in a small area. Was interesting though---we couldn't even give them away when we got to town. We ate what we could but it's too bad some of them went to waste.
