My take on 2009 fire season:
August 7 is the equivalent date of June 15 any other year. That means that this year if all goes the same as it is currently going fire season will wrap down in November.
Hope that doesn't happen....in 1992 I was on a November fire in Wyoming with temperatures at 5 degrees below zero and only paper sleeping bags for bedding. We kept the pumps running all night and spraying the water back into the tanks to keep from freezing and breaking all the fittings. It finally got above freezing around noon.
Would be a bad thing to have my final fire season be like that.
The team I am on finally got our first call out last Friday - short duration fire we are home again and went to work Wednesday so we got five days on the incident. Was a good practice run - we learned a lot about each other since it is a new team - I also learned that perhaps I am too hard headed to work with the kids any longer - time will tell but I think I'm throwing in the towel. I can no longer deal with all the new crap.

This has been a mild summer here where we live. I don't know about the wildfires in the state, but I do know that it hasn't gotten as hot as normal. We have had some grassfires near our city, but nothing big. I keep wondering if we could get so lucky as to have an entirely mild summer.
We had a fire in the Manzanos the other day, but I think it's out now. It was pretty smokey in the city for a couple of days.
wow I never realized a fire season could run so late, is it really a possibility to have fires all the way through until November?
The Laguna Beach fire was way late in November. California has lots of fires in November but they usually don't get too big.
I got home from a fire in Shanendoah National Park teh day before Thanksgiving and we were really lucky to make it for the Holiday.
Just so you know, sometimes us young kids know what we're doing, even when you think we don't. lol
Just so you know, sometimes you young kids couldn't pour the piss out of a boot with the directions written on the heel.
I think your just set in your ways. It's time for you to watch Armageddon. I love how her Dad and her boyfriend fight in that movie. :)
My boss has realized that we have good ideas, and guess what? He's more profitable now. lol
